Holiday 2016 day 13
2July 24, 2016 by Mel
And so we are nearing the end of the holiday, only a couple of days left…. it seems to have flown by so fast.
We spent today exploring Washington DC, yes, we really were the typical tourists. We started off by using the metro to get to metro centre so we could start looking around. After a fabulous breakfast, we headed down towards Fords Theatre where we found a tour company called Big Bus. We bought a two day ticket and started on our way……
After passing by the US capitol building, our first stop we hoped for was the National Museum of the American Indian however a power cut meant it wasn’t open, hopefully tomorrow for that one. Next door was the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum. This was an absolute must and oh boy, we werent disappointed. It was amazing. Seeing the history of flight right from the start to space exploration was certainly awesome.
After this we headed back on the bus and went to the Lincoln Memorial, the WW2 memorial and the Vietnam Veterans memorial. Lincoln of course was just as we expected, huge and covered in tourists. We did managed to get a few photos though. Both the WW2 and Vietnam memorials were amazing and especially seeing the wall of names from Vietnam that seemed never ending.
We next jumped back on the bus and went across the river to Arlington National Cemetery. This was quite a sight to see.
Time was now getting on and so we headed back towards the White House as we were booked to take the Monuments by Moonlight tour. First we needed some dinner and as it is soon the end of the holiday we decided to push the boat out and had dinner at Willard Hotel. I cannot stress enough how great this was. The food was amazing.
After the night bus tour we headed back to the hotel so I could get this blog entry done for you all to enjoy. Tomorrow we hope to go to Chinatown, American Indian Museum, outside the White House and in the Visitors Centre and if we have time, I am hoping we can get to the Natural History Museum. We have also got free tickets to Madame Tussaud’s so hey, never pass up a free event !!
Packing so much in… you are going to need a holiday to get over this one ha ha

I completely agree, I have to say we are definitely feeling exhausted today. We are now sat in the American Indian museum having a quick bite to eat. Temperature is between 100f – 108f ( this is up to 42c in English !!!). Lee has melted.
